The 27-year-old has scored once in seven appearances this season and his early performances have reportedly encouraged Sevilla to consider how they might keep him beyond the current campaign.
Fofana joined the Andalusian club on loan in September. The agreement, confirmed by Sevilla, does not include an option to buy, meaning any permanent move would require fresh negotiations with AC Milan.
That makes the club’s immediate priority clear: convince the player that his future should remain in Seville before attempting to find a route to a longer-term agreement.
Estadio Deportivo reports that Sevilla want to win Fofana over through the same kind of personal approach they used with goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. The aim is to make the player feel settled and committed to the project rather than rely on him to force a move himself.
Fofana arrived with considerable experience. Born in Paris in 1999, he made his professional breakthrough at Strasbourg before moving to Monaco, where he developed into a regular in midfield and featured in European competition.
His performances earned him a move to Milan in 2024. He made 88 appearances for the Italian club, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists, and was part of the squad that won the Italian Super Cup. He has also represented France at senior international level.
Sevilla’s loan agreement gives them the opportunity to assess how he fits into the team, but it does not give them control over his long-term future. Milan retain his registration, so the Spanish club would need to agree terms with the Italian side if they decide to pursue a permanent transfer.
For now, Sevilla’s reported strategy is to build the relationship and make the player want to stay. His first weeks in Spain have given the club encouragement, but the more complicated question will be whether they can turn that promising start into an affordable deal.
With no purchase clause in place, a successful outcome will depend on both Fofana’s willingness to continue in LaLiga and Milan’s position when the loan ends.
