The Belgian winger, deployed further forward under Rúben Amorim this season, provided the assist for Gonçalo Ramos' winner after coming on as a substitute in Friday's 2-0 victory against Venezia FC.
Asked how he was adapting to a more advanced role, Saelemaekers said: "I think you've seen how many positions I can play. I don't have a preferred role - I spoke with the boss at the start of the season and he sees me as a second striker.
"Wherever I play, I'll always give 100 per cent, it's important to build the group."
Reflecting on whether the win helped repay supporters after a difficult result against Cagliari, he added: "They know we gave everything, then things went badly. We were good at rebuilding everything from zero. We wanted to do it all in memory of Franco Baresi," referencing the pre-match tribute to the Milan and Italy great, who died on 31 July.
Saelemaekers was also asked to send a message to Rafael Leão, who completed his move to Galatasaray after the Venezia match.
"What does he leave behind? Rafa is a great, great player - when he's on form he can change a game on his own. No story lasts forever, there's always a moment to move on. It was his choice, we wish him all the best and we're sorry to see him go. We're thinking about ourselves now."
The result took Milan to two wins from two league games under Amorim, who used Saelemaekers as an attacking substitute for the second successive match to inject fresh energy into the final third. Having arrived from Anderlecht in 2020, Saelemaekers has become one of the more adaptable figures in the Milan squad, having previously played across midfield and defence during his time at the club, and his willingness to fill whatever role is asked of him has made him a regular fixture under multiple head coaches.
With AC Milan facing back-to-back away trips to Juventus and Lazio in the coming weeks, his flexibility could prove valuable as Amorim continues to shape his attacking options following Leão's exit.
