ESPN Deportes journalist Rodra reported that staff members have used those exact terms when discussing the France captain internally, and that the criticism extends to his attitude on a daily basis.
The Spanish outlet also alleged that Mbappé left the training pitch on one occasion with a teammate while openly mocking a member of the coaching staff, and that during a separate session he confronted head coach Álvaro Arbeloa and caused a scene involving a disagreement with a staff member. ESPN Deportes noted that these claims remain to be corroborated by other Spanish outlets.
Earlier in the week, ESPN Deportes had already reported that Real Madrid are broadly disappointed by Mbappé's lack of leadership since his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. The club had expected him to fill the void left by Karim Benzema as the dressing room's figurehead — a role that has instead been assumed by Vinícius Júnior.
Criticism from France has been equally pointed. Pundit Jérôme Rothen, speaking on RMC Sport, challenged the idea that Mbappé should be carrying Les Bleus as their primary technical influence.
"When you see the players around him today, you can't ask Kylian Mbappé to be the technical leader. He should not be the attacking leader. We have to play to his strengths. We have the advantage of having a very efficient player who scores a lot of goals.
"But there is a structure to put in place around him. When you see Dembélé and Olise — when they touch the ball, it's incredible. I am not ashamed to say that what Olise and Dembélé do, Mbappé is not capable of doing."
The timing of the criticism is significant. Real Madrid were eliminated by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals and are trailing Barcelona by eleven points in La Liga with five games remaining, making this one of the most disappointing seasons in recent memory for the club.
Mbappé has nevertheless finished as the team's top scorer with 41 goals in 41 matches across all competitions — a return that complicates the narrative of total failure, even as questions about his character and his fit within the group continue to multiply.
