The trial, held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Thursday, concerned the unauthorised recording and sharing of sexual videos involving two women — one of whom was a minor at the time of the incident in 2023 — that Asencio and three former Real Madrid Castilla teammates, Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andrés García, had been accused of distributing without consent.
Both women told the judge they had formally pardoned all four defendants, a legal mechanism under Spanish law that allowed prosecutors to withdraw the charge of revealing secrets and led directly to Asencio's acquittal. His three co-defendants received one-year prison sentences, which were suspended.
Asencio addressed the outcome in a lengthy statement posted to his social media channels.
"Today, after a long period of silence and respecting a judicial process I always trusted, I can say I have been ACQUITTED," he wrote. He said he had found the months since the allegations became public difficult, particularly seeing information and opinions published before the courts had reached a verdict, while stressing he respected the media's right to report and comment.
"I always trusted that justice would eventually put things in their place," he added, thanking his family, friends, agent, lawyers and Real Madrid for their support throughout the process.
The 23-year-old also used the statement to address a separate matter, acknowledging a recent conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol.
"I am deeply sorry for what happened and I fully accept my responsibility," he wrote. "It has been an experience I have learned from, and I am absolutely clear that it will not happen again."
He said he wanted to focus on football going forward, closing his message with a reference to comments made by head coach José Mourinho, who had addressed the case at his own press conference this week without commenting directly on the legal proceedings.
"Now it's my turn to speak," Asencio wrote. "And I completely agree with my coach — not just on the pitch, but off it too."
Real Madrid had continued to select and train Asencio throughout the legal process, with Mourinho saying this week that while the club's own internal disciplinary file into the player's conduct remains open, he considers him a Real Madrid player regardless. The defender has been out injured in recent weeks and is expected to remain sidelined for a further fortnight.
