Real Madrid have lifted Jorge Cestero’s punishment, allowing the Castilla midfielder to return for Friday’s derby against Atlético Madrileño.

Real Madrid have lifted Jorge Cestero's punishment, allowing the Castilla midfielder to return for Friday's derby against Atlético Madrileño.

Marca reported that Cestero will be included in the squad after the disagreement that led to his omission from the previous match against Alcorcón was resolved internally.

The situation began when Cestero was left on the bench for Castilla's draw with Sant Andreu. AS subsequently reported that the midfielder's reaction to the decision resulted in a disciplinary measure, with the club leaving him out of the squad for the following match.

Castilla coach Julián López de Lerma had avoided discussing the reason for Cestero's absence while confirming that it was a technical decision.

“We are in a formative phase. We want all the players to be able to show themselves, compete and be in the team,” López de Lerma said. “Jorge will be a very important player for us this season.”

The matter has now been settled away from the pitch and Cestero is available again for the meeting with Atlético Madrileño at the Alfredo Di Stéfano.

The midfielder has been an important part of Castilla's season and has also spent time around the senior squad. Real Madrid's official profile lists Cestero as a midfielder and records his first-team debut for the club's senior set-up in December 2025.

He also featured during pre-season under José Mourinho, gaining further experience alongside the first-team group.

Cestero's return comes at an important moment for Castilla. The side drew with Sant Andreu before losing 2-1 at home to Alcorcón, leaving López de Lerma's team looking for a response in the derby.

AS reports that the disagreement between Cestero and López de Lerma has now been put behind them, with the club satisfied that the issue is resolved.

The timing gives Cestero an immediate opportunity to return to competitive action in a fixture that carries additional significance for the academy sides.

His availability also restores one of Castilla's established midfield options as the team looks to turn around its recent results in front of the home supporters.
