Vinícius is under contract at Madrid until June 2027, and although he is not actively pushing for a departure, no agreement on an extension has been reached. Pérez is understood to be mapping out alternatives in the event that talks stall after the World Cup.
Any approach for Haaland, 25, would face enormous practical obstacles. The Manchester City striker signed a contract extension to 2034 in November 2024, and any transfer would require a fee of at least €200m before personal terms even entered the conversation. City have made clear on multiple occasions that Haaland is not available.
The story has a recent precedent. During Real Madrid's presidential election in May, rival candidate Enrique Riquelme publicly claimed Haaland had a release clause and wanted to join Madrid, prompting City to threaten legal action and the player's representatives to flatly deny the claim. Riquelme lost the election to Pérez.
Pérez has since moved his summer business in different directions. Madrid have already completed the signings of Bernardo Silva from City and Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, with Haaland having scored four goals in Norway's opening two World Cup games to add to his profile as one of the world's most coveted strikers.
According to Sport, Madrid are also eyeing Bayern Munich's Michael Olise as an alternative attacking option, with that interest independent of Vinícius's future. Extension talks with the Brazilian are expected after the tournament concludes.
