Real Madrid have fined Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni €500,000 each following their dressing room confrontation on Thursday — an unprecedented sanction in the club's recent history.

However, management ave decided against imposing any sporting punishment, leaving both players available for Sunday's El Clásico at Camp Nou.

Both players appeared before the club's disciplinary instructor on Friday, acknowledged their conduct, expressed remorse and apologised to each other, to their teammates, to the coaching staff and to the supporters. The club then issued a full statement confirming the outcome.

Real Madrid's official statement read in full: "Real Madrid C. F. announces that, following the events that led to the opening yesterday of a disciplinary file against our players Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni, both have appeared today before the instructor of the file.

"During this appearance, the players expressed their full remorse for what occurred and apologised to each other. They also conveyed their apologies to the club, their teammates, the coaching staff and the supporters, and both placed themselves at Real Madrid's disposal to accept whatever sanction the club deemed appropriate.

"In view of these circumstances, Real Madrid has resolved to impose an economic sanction of five hundred thousand euros on each player, thereby concluding the corresponding internal procedures."

Before the formal proceedings, the two players had already taken steps toward reconciliation. According to Marca, Valverde and Tchouaméni spoke privately on Thursday evening to address their differences directly, and on Friday morning both apologised to their teammates and coaching staff in the dressing room.

Valverde will remain unavailable for selection regardless — he was diagnosed with cranioencephalic trauma after the altercation and faces 10 to 14 days of rest under medical protocols. Tchouaméni, however, will travel to Barcelona with the squad and is available for Álvaro Arbeloa's selection on Sunday.

Real Madrid's decision to avoid a sporting punishment is a deliberate choice to protect the squad at a critical moment — a financial statement rather than a competitive one. Whether a €500,000 fine registers as meaningful to players on salaries measured in millions per month is a question only those inside the club can answer.

Barcelona can win La Liga on Sunday if they avoid defeat. Real Madrid face them at Camp Nou with their dressing room shaken, their captain sidelined and their credibility on the line.
