Erling Haaland's name is back in the Real Madrid conversation, this time thanks to his own father, after Alfie Haaland refused to shut the door on a future switch to the Bernabeu.

Speaking to Dazn, the former Leeds and Manchester City midfielder was careful not to discuss timeframes or ongoing talks, stressing instead that his son remains settled at Manchester City. But he conceded that a move to Real Madrid is something almost every footballer dreams of at some point.

"I don't want to talk much about elections at other clubs. He's happy at City, he has a long contract... but any player wants to play for Real Madrid," Alfie Haaland said.

The comments carry extra weight given Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme had already floated Haaland's name during his campaign for the club's top job, claiming a deal for the Norwegian striker would be done if he won the election. Haaland's camp gave only a muted denial of any agreement or understanding with Riquelme at the time.

This time, Alfie Haaland steered clear of that particular episode altogether, neither confirming nor denying any contact linked to the presidential race. Pressed on whether his son might one day turn out in Spain, he again left the door ajar.

"Maybe, maybe... There are always opportunities in football. In Spain there are fantastic teams, there are big clubs. You never know, but right now he's in England and he's happy," he explained.

Haaland signed a nine-and-a-half-year extension at City in January 2025, a deal that runs until 2034 and was widely reported at the time as putting an end to any lingering Real Madrid speculation. Even so, media sources have continued to report that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez views the Norwegian as a long-term target, with any move potentially hinging on the club first raising funds through the departure of Vinicius Junior.

Those close to Haaland continue to insist he is content in England and in no hurry to force through an exit. Yet his father stopped short of closing off any route away from City, Real Madrid included.
