Real Betis are already working the market for a reliable left-back to cope with a demanding season that includes a return to the Champions League, with Real Madrid's Fran Garcia among the names on their list.

The position has become urgent at Heliopolis with Ricardo Rodriguez's contract expiring, leaving Junior Firpo as the squad's only recognised specialist there once the Swiss international's deal runs out.

Garcia's own situation at Real Madrid has been complicated by Marc Cucurella's arrival, which has significantly increased competition for the left-back spot at the Bernabeu.

The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, a circumstance that gives Real Madrid reason to consider a sale this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing next year, reports Marca.

Real Betis's sporting department, led by Manu Fajardo, has explored Garcia's situation and regards him as an appealing option to strengthen a position requiring an immediate upgrade. His age, LaLiga experience and ability to contribute right away all fit what the club needs as it prepares to compete across three competitions next season. The deal, however, is far from straightforward.

Real Madrid value the transfer at around €10m, with the player's salary demands adding further strain to a deal that would push the cost beyond what Betis have currently budgeted for the position.

For now, Betis's priority remains moving players on and balancing the books before committing to significant investment. The club is working to create financial and salary space, aware that the market will run long and that opportunities may emerge later in the window. That has not stopped Betis from positioning themselves, however, with the club making clear they are following the situation closely.

Garcia came through Real Madrid's academy before returning to the club in the summer of 2023, having established himself as one of LaLiga's standout left-backs during a loan spell at Rayo Vallecano. He has made more than 100 official appearances for Real Madrid since, with his most active campaign coming in 2024-25, when he featured 54 times. This season he has played 23 matches and scored once — fittingly, against Betis.

His main assets remain his attacking depth, pace and the energy he brings running the flank, qualities that made him stand out at Vallecas and continue to draw interest from several clubs. Betis are one of them. The numbers do not yet add up, but Heliopolis — where the club are also monitoring fellow Real Madrid player Dani Ceballos — has positioned itself for a player it considers one of the most attractive left-back opportunities on the market this summer.
