Viktor Gyökeres has continued his excellent goalscoring form for Sweden, with Graham Potter praising the Arsenal striker’s leadership after his latest international performance.

The 28-year-old has scored three goals in three Nations League matches during the current international break, helping Sweden collect seven points from their opening three games.

Gyökeres was again central to Sweden's attack in Friday's 1-1 draw away to Bosnia and Herzegovina, scoring in the second half after having an earlier effort ruled out for handball.

The striker thought the first goal may have touched his hand or a finger but argued that the contact did not help him control the ball.

“It feels like it might hit my thumb or some finger or something,” Gyökeres told SVT Sport. “I don't think I help at all with that touch.”

His second effort did count, putting Sweden ahead in the 61st minute. Bosnia eventually equalised from a free-kick in the 80th minute, denying Potter's side a third consecutive victory.

Gyökeres was disappointed with the result despite being pleased with Sweden's overall performance.

“It's obviously tough that we don't win the match and keep a clean sheet,” he told Sportbladet. “But in terms of our play, I think we do very well today and we should be happy with that. But it's tough and we should have won.”

Potter also felt Sweden deserved more from the match and highlighted the team's defensive performance.

“It's a disappointment that we don't take three points, but in terms of the performance in the match it's good,” the England coach told SVT Sport.

“We defend well, and we score a good goal.”

The Sweden manager has also been impressed by the way Gyökeres has taken responsibility within the team.

Asked by Expressen how much football the striker can handle, Potter pointed to his physical strength and ability to recover.

“He is incredibly physically strong, so if anyone can do it, it is him,” Potter said.

Potter was particularly enthusiastic about Gyökeres' influence against Bosnia.

“He was absolutely incredible today. The way he leads, how he gets all the players involved, how he gives us a completely different dimension in our play. And that he scores again, he is in fantastic form.”

Gyökeres' international form comes after a demanding first season at Arsenal. He scored 21 goals and supplied three assists in 55 competitive appearances during the 2025/26 campaign as Arsenal won the Premier League.

His involvement at club level has been more limited at the beginning of the new season, with two appearances in five league matches and no starts.

That has made his current international contribution particularly notable, with Sweden relying heavily on the striker during a difficult period for Potter, who has also been without several players through injury and illness.

Sweden now face Romania on Monday, with Gyökeres expected to lead the attack again as Potter's side look to strengthen their position at the top of the group.

Gyökeres remains under contract with Arsenal until 2030, but for now his attention is firmly on Sweden and the Nations League campaign.
