Miralem Pjanic has revealed how he helped Juventus beat Chelsea to the signing of Kerim Alajbegovic after the teenager chose Italy over Bosnia.

The former Juventus and Roma midfielder spoke at the Festival dello Sport in Trento about Alajbegovic, a summer signing he helped bring to Turin through his relationship with the player's family.

Chelsea had been close to completing a deal for the teenager, but Alajbegovic ultimately decided that Juventus was the right destination for his development.

“It is true that everything went through Kerim's family and me. They asked for advice and wanted me to be close to him,” Pjanic told TMW.

“Chelsea were very close to closing everything, but the boy's desire was to come and play in Italy. A couple of Italian teams were interested in him and he decided on Juve.”

Pjanic admitted that seeing a Bosnian player representing Juventus has given him particular satisfaction, especially after Alajbegovic's promising start.

“Today, hearing from him and his family, it fills me with pride to see a Bosnian playing for Juve, but above all to see him doing well. I know he will give the Juve fans a lot of satisfaction.”

The former midfielder believes Alajbegovic's personality is already apparent when he receives the ball, with his willingness to attack opponents standing out at such a young age.

“When he receives the ball, he is not someone who passes it backwards and hides. He takes the ball and goes forward.”

Pjanic believes that confidence is unusual for a player of Alajbegovic's age and could prove central to his development.

“That personality at that age is not normal. It makes you understand that he will have an important future.”

The Bosnian nevertheless stressed that Juventus should not expect their young signing to decide matches immediately. Instead, the priority should be allowing him to learn and develop quickly.

“We cannot expect him to solve matches, but for him to learn quickly and to stay at Juve for as long as possible.”

Pjanic also believes Juventus are delighted with what they have seen from the youngster so far, while highlighting the excitement he creates whenever he is involved.

“Juve are very happy to have him in the squad. When he has the ball, something always happens.”

Alajbegovic's arrival therefore represents more than a promising young signing for Juventus. For Pjanic, it is also a personal source of pride after helping convince the teenager and his family that Turin offered the right environment for his career.
