The Frenchman is under pressure after a disappointing opening to his time in charge at Selhurst Park. Palace are 17th in the Premier League, with two wins and a draw from their first eight league matches, while their European campaign has also been underwhelming.
The Eagles have managed one victory and one draw in the Europa League, leaving them 15th in the league phase. Their results have increased scrutiny of Sage, who arrived in England after leaving his position at Lens.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the manager acknowledged the need for a change in approach and accepted that results must improve.
“Faced with difficulty, with a problem, you have to find a solution that you had not thought of before. I know that the most important thing is the results, and that we have to change things to become the team we can be,” Sage said.
He also recognised the responsibility he carries during a difficult period, stressing that the players need him to make the right decisions.
“I have to make the right decisions at the right time during this period, because the players need me. This situation may be a positive opportunity for me,” he added.
Palace have shown some signs of progress in cup competition, beating Fulham to reach the quarter-finals of the League Cup. Their next tie is against Sunderland, offering another opportunity to build confidence, although the immediate priority remains improving their league position.
Sage knows that cup progress alone will not ease the pressure surrounding his role. Palace need greater consistency in the Premier League if they are to move away from the relegation places and restore confidence in the project.
His comments suggest he remains determined to take responsibility rather than become distracted by speculation about his future. However, the manager also understands that the situation will ultimately be judged by results.
The coming weeks will therefore be important for both Sage and Palace. A stronger run in the league would provide breathing space, while further setbacks could intensify questions about the direction of the club under the French coach.
