The left-footed forward was with Barcelona’s Under-16 side last week and scored in a 4-2 win away to Atlètic Segre. He then stepped up to the Juvenil B before making his debut for the Juvenil A.
The movement between teams was partly driven by international call-ups affecting Barcelona Atlètic and the Juvenil A. Those absences created a chain reaction through the academy, giving Asumu an opportunity to operate at levels above his usual age group.
Against Olot, Asumu started for the Juvenil B while Erik Domínguez was left on the bench. Domínguez was then available to start for the Juvenil A against Sabadell, while Asumu was used from the bench in that match.
It is not the first time Asumu has been moved quickly through the age groups. He also played across several levels last season, progressing from the Under-15s to the Under-16s and Juvenil B.
Asumu joined La Masia from FE Grama and has continued to attract attention for his physical development as well as his ability with the ball. His pace and power have become increasingly prominent as he has grown.
He is a left-footer who can operate from the right, allowing him to attack inside and use his stronger foot. His direct running and ability to strike the ball cleanly are among the qualities that have made him stand out.
His recent Juvenil A appearance came in a chaotic match against Sabadell. Barcelona led 3-1 before losing 4-3 after playing the entire second half with 10 men.
Asumu could not find a goal or assist during his time on the pitch, but his willingness to attack and the power he showed against older opponents offered an indication of his potential.
His progress has also been visible at international level. Asumu represented Spain Under-15s in two friendly matches against France in May, scoring the winner in the first game at Clairefontaine. That experience came while he was still playing below the older Barcelona teams.
Current competition records list Asumu as a Barcelona Cadete player, but his higher-age-group appearances show why he is being tested against older opponents.
For Barcelona, his movement between teams provides an opportunity to assess how quickly he can adapt. This week has given the academy an indication that Asumu is ready for challenges beyond his age group.
