According to journalist Diego Firmino, Forest have been watching the 25-year-old's situation closely, with Palmeiras seeking a fee somewhere between €22m (£19m) and €25m (£21.6m) for a player in whom they still retain an 85% economic stake.
AS Roma and Atalanta have also registered interest, meaning Nottingham Forest could face competition from Serie A if they decide to formalise their pursuit of the former Internacional man.
Mauricio's value has climbed sharply over recent weeks on the back of his exploits at the World Cup. Having only recently completed naturalisation to qualify for Paraguay, he was among the standout performers as the South Americans made an unlikely run through the tournament, scoring against the United States and impressing with his movement, creativity and composure in the final third.
His club form has backed up the impression left on the international stage. This season Mauricio has contributed four goals and two assists in 30 appearances for Palmeiras, building on an outstanding 2025 campaign in which he registered ten goals and eleven assists across 53 matches.
Those numbers, allied to his eye-catching World Cup showing, have hardened Palmeiras' resolve to demand a significant fee rather than let him leave cheaply.
For Forest, the interest fits a familiar pattern of dipping into the Brazilian market, having previously brought in players such as Murillo and Jair Cunha from South America. No formal bid has yet been lodged, but with rival suitors circulating, Forest may need to move decisively to beat Italian competition before the window closes.
Operating primarily as a left-footed number 10, Mauricio is comfortable drifting into wide areas as well as through the middle, offering tactical flexibility that could appeal to a Forest side looking to add depth in attacking areas.
His ability to find pockets of space between opposition lines, combined with a willingness to shoot from distance, marks him out as a different profile to much of Forest's current options, with new head coach Oliver Glasner still assembling his squad since taking charge earlier this month.
