Morgan Rogers has credited João Pedro’s work rate and instincts in front of goal for helping the pair develop into an effective attacking partnership at Chelsea.

Rogers joined Chelsea from Aston Villa during the summer and has made an immediate impact. He has scored four goals and supplied an assist across the club’s opening six Premier League fixtures, while João Pedro has contributed five goals and three assists, according to the figures in the original report.

The Brazilian’s influence goes beyond his finishing, Rogers believes. Speaking about his team-mate in comments reported by Goal.com, the England international said: “I think his (João Pedro) hunger to score goals and his hunger to work for the team is incredibly important.”

He added: “Especially for me, where I play on the pitch, it really helps me a lot. He always gives me an option. I can always play to him, he can play to me. I think he is an incredibly important part of us and it is not just about him scoring goals, he also works so incredibly hard.

“The relentless running in the channels and the defensive work for the team – he is in the form of his life right now, and it is really good for Chelsea that he is performing at that level.”

João Pedro arrived from Brighton in the summer of 2025 and has become a prominent figure in Chelsea’s attack. Rogers said the forward’s goalscoring output reflects the attention he gives to his work on the training ground rather than simply being a product of good fortune.

“It is not everything he focuses on, but a lot of his focus is on scoring goals and being in the box,” Rogers said. “He works on it in training, getting forward, getting into the box and scoring goals, and he has done that in every game since I came here.”

The comments follow Chelsea’s emphatic 5-1 win over Bournemouth, in which Rogers scored and João Pedro struck twice. The result offered another illustration of the contribution both players are making in the final third.

Their early-season numbers have given Chelsea an encouraging platform, but Rogers’ praise also points to a partnership built on movement and effort away from the ball. João Pedro’s willingness to press, make runs and provide an outlet gives Rogers another route into dangerous areas.

For Chelsea, the combination of Rogers’ attacking threat and João Pedro’s goalscoring form could prove increasingly valuable as the season develops.
