Gerry Cardinale has blocked a $10 million-per-season MLS offer for Christian Pulisic and is hoping Luka Modric decides to extend at AC Milan rather than join Jose Mourinho's coaching staff at Real Madrid.

President Cardinale has identified Pulisic as one of the pillars of his rebuilt AC Milan project, refusing to entertain departure proposals despite a significant offer from New York City — while Luka Modric's future at the club remains entirely in the Croatian's own hands, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

New York City are understood to have tabled a five-year contract worth $10 million net per season for Pulisic, a proposal that would represent a lucrative return to MLS for the US international.

Cardinale has shown no interest in facilitating the move. Pulisic is under contract until 2027, with an automatic extension option to 2028, and renewal talks are expected to be reopened in the coming months despite negotiations having stalled last season. He is regarded as the primary American face of the Rossoneri project.

Modric's situation is different in nature. The 40 year-old Croatian has the option of extending his contract at Milan for a further season, but the final decision rests solely with him.

Cardinale still hopes to convince the former Real Madrid captain to continue playing rather than move into coaching — Mourinho has extended an invitation to Modric to join his technical staff at the Bernabéu after retirement. Modric will not make his decision until after the World Cup.
