Real Madrid secured their third consecutive victory in the competition through goals from Bernardo Silva, Arda Güler, Mbappé and Yan Diomande. Tidiam Gomis scored Leipzig's consolation, while Courtois produced important saves to prevent the visitors from making the contest more difficult.
The result provided a timely boost before the trip to Barcelona, where Madrid will look to gain ground in LaLiga.
Mbappé, speaking to Movistar, said the team knew the importance of every point in their attempt to finish among the Champions League's top eight.
“We know that every point is important for the top eight. We have won three matches, and we have five left,” he said.
The French forward also stressed the need to focus on each fixture individually rather than becoming distracted by the Clásico.
“We only think about today's match. Now we are already thinking about Sunday,” Mbappé added.
Courtois was similarly optimistic about Madrid's prospects, pointing to their recent performances and growing confidence. He acknowledged that Barcelona had been playing well but insisted that he believed his team could win away from home.
“For me, Clásicos are always 50-50, even when one team sometimes arrives in better form than the other,” the Belgian goalkeeper said.
Much of the attention, however, centred on Vinicius and the criticism he has received. Courtois defended his teammate, comparing the expectations placed on the Brazilian with the scrutiny experienced by even the greatest players.
“I'm sure he will find his best version with the support of the team and the fans. He had a good game, with dangerous actions, and sometimes things just don't work out,” Courtois said.
He added that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi had also faced criticism despite their extraordinary consistency, arguing that Madrid must help Vinicius rediscover his best form rather than allowing pressure to undermine him.
Mbappé's assessment was equally positive. He said Vinicius had worked hard defensively against Leipzig and came close to scoring an outstanding goal.
“He has done a good match. Only he can explain whether he feels sad or not, but his coach is happy,” Mbappé said.
Courtois also addressed concerns about refereeing ahead of the Clásico, saying he trusted officials to act honestly while acknowledging that mistakes could happen. He called for VAR interventions to remain focused on clear errors.
With Madrid winning in Europe and their key players publicly supporting Vinicius, attention now turns to a Clásico that could have significant consequences for the league title race.
