Manchester City originally signed the Argentine goalkeeper back in 2016, only to loan him straight back to Real Sociedad without him ever making a competitive appearance for the club; a decade on, he is set to finally pull on a City shirt for the first time.
According to Argentine journalist Esteban Edul, Rulli has already undergone his medical and is a new Manchester City player, with the formalities understood to be complete ahead of an official announcement.
The move follows a brief tussle over fee, with City's opening offer of €2m rejected before an improved bid brought the two clubs to an agreement worth €3.5m. Personal terms had already been in place for some time, with reports last week indicating Rulli had accepted a two-year contract, understood to run until June 2028 with an option for a further season.
The 34-year-old, who saved the winning penalty for Villarreal in the 2021 Europa League final shootout against Manchester United before spells at Ajax and Marseille, arrives to provide experienced cover for Gianluigi Donnarumma following James Trafford's move to Leeds United.
Marseille, for their part, have already moved to address the gap left by Rulli's departure, lodging a loan offer for Neom SC goalkeeper Marcin Bułka in anticipation of the deal being completed.
With both clubs now acting as though the transfer is done, an official announcement from Manchester City appears to be little more than a formality.
