According to A Bola, Manchester City sent scouts to watch Froholdt in Porto's 3-1 win over Benfica, having already faced him when City beat Porto 2-0 in their opening Champions League group match.
Froholdt was named man of the match against Benfica, scoring the goal that restored Porto's lead only three minutes after the hosts had been pegged back, in a performance that came only days after he recovered from a concussion sustained against Moreirense.
Porto's manager, Francesco Farioli, has increasingly relied on the 20-year-old in central midfield this season.
UEFA data from this season shows Froholdt completing over 90% of his passes and reaching a top speed of 31.41 km/h, underlining the athletic profile that has made him a target for several of Europe's biggest clubs.
Porto are in a strong negotiating position, since Froholdt's contract runs until the summer of 2030, and the club are reported to value him at around €70 million. He has scored one goal in 12 caps for Denmark.
