France trailed 1-0 before four goals in the final stages transformed the Nations League match, with Cherki among the substitutes who helped turn the game around.
The Manchester City midfielder scored France’s second goal after coming off the bench and was one of the outstanding players during the late comeback.
Cherki was also keen to address criticism surrounding his role and reports of tension with Michael Olise, which he had previously rejected on social media.
“I'm going to start reacting more. Everything that is said in the press about all the players, you shouldn't listen to it,” Cherki told TF1.
The 23-year-old also praised the atmosphere within the France squad, insisting the unity inside the group is not always visible from outside.
“We have an extraordinary team cohesion. You don't see that because it is private, between us. I have rarely known a group that plays so well from the first player to the last,” he said.
Cherki has been deployed in a deeper midfield role since Zinedine Zidane took charge of France, requiring him to adapt his game and place greater emphasis on controlling possession.
He believes critics must therefore judge him differently as he learns the demands of his new position.
“You have talked about my dribbles and my passes, but today I am in a role where I force myself to play complete and clean matches,” Cherki said.
“The real football experts understand that. I have learned to play in a new position.”
Cherki added that he must produce consistent performances and avoid unnecessary losses of possession in the role, while insisting that he enjoys the challenge.
“I have to play clean and consistent matches and it is a position that I like,” he said. “You will see over time that it will become an easier position.”
His performance against Belgium provided an immediate indication of what he can offer from the deeper role, combining his technical quality with greater responsibility away from the ball.
Cherki’s response also made clear that he intends to let his performances settle the debate surrounding his position rather than allowing criticism to distract him.
After helping France complete their dramatic comeback, he now has an opportunity to establish himself in Zidane’s midfield system.
