Luis Enrique says PSG have greater motivation than Arsenal in Budapest showdown

PSG coach Luis Enrique has insisted his side carry greater motivation into Saturday's Champions League final against Arsenal than the Premier League champions, arguing that defending a title is a more demanding achievement.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference in Budapest, Enrique was asked whether Arsenal's pursuit of their first ever European Cup would give Mikel Arteta's side additional incentive on the night. His response was characteristically direct.

"Yes that's powerful but you know how powerful trying to win the second one in a row is? It's bigger. So we're ahead."

PSG beat Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate in last season's semi-final en route to their first Champions League title, a 5-0 victory over Internazionale in Munich. Winning consecutive titles would make them only the second club in the competition's modern era to do so, after Real Madrid's run of three consecutive titles between 2016 and 2018.

Enrique was generous in his assessment of what Arteta has built at Arsenal.

"No, I am not surprised, especially with what he has done this year. They are absolutely worthy of winning the Premier League. They were the best team and the most consistent. It was not always easy with Manchester City on their tails, but they deserve the title. Arteta has been there for six-and-a-half years so he knows the team and he knows them inside out."

Ballon d'Or holder Ousmane Dembélé, who suffered a calf strain on May 17 in PSG's final Ligue 1 fixture against Paris FC, confirmed he is ready to play and has no residual concern about the injury.

"No, I wasn't scared about missing the final. I stopped when I felt the niggle, and I had 10 to 15 days to get ready for the final. I am 100 percent ready and raring to go."

Dembélé added that PSG had studied Arsenal's set-piece threat — a significant weapon across Arteta's campaign — and praised the Gunners as genuine European royalty.

"Arsenal are an excellent team. Their journey has been great, they deserve to be in the final. They play great football and are great across the board. Set-pieces, everyone knows that. They have got an exceptional coach."

PSG arrive in Budapest as favourites. Arsenal come carrying the weight of history and a city expecting to celebrate.
