The Spaniard spoke to Canal+ in Munich after the 1-1 draw gave PSG a 6-5 aggregate victory over Bayern Munich, with Ousmane DembΓ©lΓ©'s third-minute opener β created by Kvaratskhelia β proving the decisive contribution across 180 minutes that produced eleven goals and several moments of genuine drama.
"We are happy. It is incredible. The life of the coach and the players is very hard β we must celebrate tonight. But we have to think about the final. There is no easy final. We deserve this because this year has been very particular."
He highlighted the challenge of repeating as champions with a squad that could not simply replicate the starting eleven from last season's final triumph over Inter Milan in Munich.
"When you think that we could not repeat the starting eleven from last season's Champions League final. We could not play with all those players, but that shows who we are."
His clearest statement was reserved for the mentality his team had demonstrated in both legs β particularly in Munich, where PSG defended with discipline and intelligence to hold out against sustained pressure from the continent's highest-scoring side.
"I think we showed a level of maturity today. We knew how to defend, how to attack. You can appreciate the mentality we have. As a coach, it is a pleasure to see this type of performance."
PSG now prepare for a final against Arsenal in Budapest on 30 May, seeking to become the first club since Real Madrid's era of dominance under Zinedine Zidane to retain the Champions League title. The tie also represents PSG's third Champions League final appearance β their first in 2020 ended in defeat to Bayern Munich themselves.
"The second consecutive Champions League will be very difficult, but we have the ambition."
