At a press conference ahead of Sunday's Bundesliga match, the Bayern head coach was asked about Simons and a possible future move.
"Ask Max and Christoph what will happen in the next transfer window. We accept the club's decision," he said, nodding to sporting director Christoph Freund and board member Max Eberl as the decision-makers.
The background is well-documented. Last summer, Kompany personally visited supervisory board chairman Uli Hoeness at his home to lobby for Simons. Eberl and Freund had prepared the transfer. Hoeness vetoed it, insisting on a loan-only policy, which Leipzig rejected. Simons signed for Tottenham instead for โฌ65 million, while Bayern moved for Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea.
Tottenham are now 18th in the Premier League with six games remaining, and the prospect of relegation significantly changes the equation.
A move to the Championship would almost certainly prompt Simons to seek an exit, and the fee could drop considerably from what Spurs paid a year ago.
Bayern are on course for a potential treble this season, with the Bundesliga title within reach and a Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain to come.
