Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kennet Eichhorn is hoping to return to team training this autumn after treatment stabilised a metabolic disorder that disrupted his preparations.

The 17-year-old midfielder has been working to rebuild his strength after the condition interrupted his preparations following his move to Leverkusen. According to kicker, Eichhorn hopes to feature in a match before the end of the year.

His metabolism was stabilised several weeks ago following treatment, allowing him to begin rebuilding the physical condition he lost during his absence. The next stage has involved gradual conditioning, with strength and endurance work designed to help him recover the deficits caused by the illness.

Eichhorn’s personal ambition is to return to competitive action in 2026. However, Leverkusen are not convinced that a playing comeback this year is realistic and are prioritising his recovery rather than setting an aggressive deadline.

The young midfielder had been unable to train normally for an extended period after being diagnosed with the condition shortly after joining the club. His progress will therefore depend on how well he responds to the gradual increase in physical demands.

A return to team training this autumn would represent an important step, but it would not automatically mean he is ready to play. Eichhorn must first rebuild his fitness and demonstrate that he can cope with the intensity of regular football.

Bayer Leverkusen are expected to continue monitoring his progress before deciding when he can rejoin the squad fully. While Eichhorn is keen to accelerate his return, the club’s approach reflects the need to avoid putting unnecessary pressure on a teenager recovering from a significant health setback.

For now, the target is to restore his condition and get him back into training. Whether that progress can lead to a first appearance for Leverkusen before the winter break remains uncertain.
