Carnevali has confirmed the appointment of Massara as the club's new Chief Football Officer, while also giving an update on several of the Turin club's transfer targets, including goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, Randal Kolo Muani and Alexander Sorloth.
Speaking to Sky Sport on the sidelines of a broadcaster event, Carnevali confirmed Massara's arrival with enthusiasm.
"Massara? I'm very happy about his arrival. One of the first things we have to try to do is put together a winning setup behind the scenes," he said.
"So with Massara, who will be in charge of the entire football structure alongside Ottolini and so on, we're building this squad today so we can then start the part dedicated to the pitch."
Massara, formerly of Milan and Roma, takes up the newly created role reporting directly to Carnevali, working alongside sporting director Marco Ottolini.
On the club's long-running pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain striker Kolo Muani, Carnevali played down suggestions that a breakthrough was near.
"No, the asking price hasn't come down, and we haven't raised our offer either. Obviously these days we're working on a wide range of options. I wouldn't focus only on this player, who is important. If there's a gap as big as there is now, I think it's right to make our own assessments. Nobody's chasing us, we have to do things properly."
Asked whether the club could revive its interest in Atletico Madrid forward Sorloth, potentially as an alternative to Dusan Vlahovic, Carnevali confirmed talks remained open on multiple fronts.
"We haven't met with Vlahovic. But the door is open, not just for Sorloth, but for plenty of other players too."
On the search for a new goalkeeper, Carnevali confirmed Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez remains the club's leading target, though he stressed the Argentine's participation in the World Cup was complicating matters.
"Martinez is at the World Cup, we have to wait and understand. We're interested in him, as we are in other profiles too. There are players with valuations that are too high, unrealistic, and we have to weigh that up too and make sensible choices."
Carnevali was considerably more dismissive when asked about a potential move for Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes, shutting down the suggestion almost immediately: "Bruno Fernandes? I haven't even opened that door. Let's leave it there."
