Bologna started aggressively and took the lead in the 10th minute when Pobega capitalised on a mistake by Luis Henrique. The hosts created further opportunities in an energetic first half, but Inter equalised just before the break as Thuram rose to head home Nicolò Barella’s cross.
Carlos Augusto, introduced from the bench, completed the turnaround in the 69th minute, arriving at the far post to finish Piotr Zieliński’s low delivery. Bonny then secured the win in the 83rd minute after a fluent team move.
Bologna coach Raffaele Palladino felt his side had performed well before the interval but regretted failing to extend their advantage.
“I think we had a great first half and interpreted the match very well. The players showed sacrifice and quality in transition. The regret is that we did not find a second goal, because against teams like Inter you have to be clinical,” Palladino said.
He believed Thuram’s equaliser had affected his team’s energy after half-time.
“We came back out with less energy because the goal at the end of the first half knocked us back. I congratulate Thuram on his goal and Inter on the match. We have to start again from the first half; I saw plenty of room for improvement,” he said.
Palladino also explained that an injury to Roberto Piccoli had disrupted the original plan. Bologna had hoped to isolate the striker in one-on-one situations against Inter’s defenders, but his early withdrawal forced a tactical adjustment.
“Piccoli had a problem with his hamstring, and we hope it is nothing serious. The substitutions were necessary,” the Bologna coach said, adding that other players had also been affected by knocks and cramp.
Inter Milan assistant coach Aleksandar Kolarov credited Bologna for their intensity but said his team improved by raising the tempo after the break.
“Bologna had a great first half, then in the second we raised our rhythm. I do not think Inter are struggling in Europe in terms of performances, although perhaps the results have not been there. Against Club Brugge and Real Madrid we created a great deal,” Kolarov said.
Kolarov also rejected the suggestion that Inter had underestimated their opponents, saying the squad understood the importance of away matches in Serie A and had maintained its preparation.
“Our players know how important away games in Italy are, and we had not underestimated the opposition. Our squad is strong enough that the quality of individuals shows over the 90 minutes,” he said.
The assistant coach acknowledged that defensive errors remained part of football but defended the team’s overall work, pointing to its attacking output and commitment in training.
The victory was Inter’s sixth in seven league matches, taking them to 19 points. For Bologna, it was Palladino’s first defeat since taking charge, despite a promising opening half.
