"We have all seen the various rumours going around everywhere," the 24-year-old Croatian defender told reporters at Croatia'a World Cup camp.
"But I am happy here at the club. I have everything I need. Before the injury, I played in almost every game, almost always for 90 minutes. After the World Cup, we will see what happens."
Gvardiol missed a significant portion of the season with a broken tibia sustained in January, which limited him to 25 appearances across all competitions and saw him miss the FA Cup final — a game Manchester City won against Chelsea. He has been selected in Croatia's World Cup squad and is expected to feature in the pre-tournament warm-up fixtures ahead of the competition's June 11 start.
Barcelona have entered the race for Gvardiol's signature, according to COPE, and are working on a formal approach. They had initially pursued Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan as their primary defensive target but accepted defeat in that pursuit, with the Italian committed to remaining at the club.
Gvardiol — left-footed and capable of operating as both a left-back and a left-sided centre-back — suits the profile Barcelona are seeking.
City paid RB Leipzig €90 million for Gvardiol in 2023 and he remains under contract until June 2028. The club's position, as relayed by new manager Enzo Maresca, is that he is not for sale. Manchester City are planning to open formal contract extension talks with Gvardiol and consider him a key player for the next cycle.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid have also made contact with the player's representatives. Bayern's interest is partly shaped by sporting director Max Eberl's pre-existing working relationship with Gvardiol from their time together at RB Leipzig.
Gvardiol's post-World Cup comments, rather than closing down the conversation, have simply deferred it. City may need to move quickly on a new contract if they are to prevent the summer becoming significantly more complicated.
