Pep Guardiola batted away questions about his future at Manchester City with characteristic flair on the eve of Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea, declaring he has "one more year on my contract" before making a swift exit from the press room.

The 55-year-old is heading to Wembley for the 24th time in a domestic cup semi-final or final since taking charge of City in 2016. Manchester City are already Carabao Cup holders after their 3-0 victory over Arsenal in March, and a win on Saturday would make them the first side in English football history to play in four successive FA Cup finals.

Asked whether Saturday's final could be his last trip to Wembley as City manager, Guardiola was brief and smiling.

"No way. No way โ€” I have one more year contract."

He then made for the exit, but not before being asked whether his decade at the club represents genuine greatness.

Guardiola flexed his bicep and smiled.

"Yeah, of course. 19 titles in 10 years is not bad. They know they don't need to wait until I'm leaving. They know I have been fun. I've been f***ing fun. So 19 titles โ€” fighting for 20 in 10 years โ€” it's not bad, honestly."

BBC Sport reported this week that there is tangible uncertainty over whether Guardiola will see out the final year of his deal, which runs to 2027. Former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has been identified as the leading internal candidate to succeed him, with City having begun preliminary succession planning. Backroom coaches including fitness coach Lorenzo Buenaventura and goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor are understood to be leaving this summer, adding a further layer of uncertainty.

Guardiola has given no indication of what he would do next should he step down. A sabbatical is considered likely before any return to management, whether at club or international level.

City won two of the three previous FA Cup finals Guardiola has contested, beating Watford in 2019 and Manchester United in 2023 before losing to Chelsea in 2024 and Crystal Palace in 2025.
