Arsenal were confirmed as champions on Tuesday night after Manchester City failed to beat AFC Bournemouth, ending the north London club’s 22-year wait for the title.
Arteta returned to Arsenal as head coach in December 2019 before later taking on the role of manager.
Since then, the Spaniard has rebuilt the squad and transformed Arsenal into one of Europe’s strongest sides after several years outside title contention.
Despite winning the league, Arteta still faced criticism from sections of supporters and pundits this season over Arsenal’s style of play.
Xhaka, now Sunderland captain after leaving Arsenal in 2023, responded publicly following confirmation of the title triumph.
“Congratulations to the whole Arsenal family,” Xhaka wrote on Instagram.
“A special team, fantastic players and a club that never stopped believing, but all of this is thanks to you, Mikel.”
The Switzerland international also aimed a message directly at those who questioned Arteta during the campaign.
“To everyone who doubted you, give this man and this coach the respect he deserves,” Xhaka added.
Xhaka spent seven years at Arsenal and became one of Arteta’s most trusted leaders during the early stages of the rebuild.
The midfielder played a central role in helping stabilise the dressing room during a difficult transitional period before eventually departing for Bayer Leverkusen.
Arteta has now delivered Arsenal’s first Premier League title since Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles season in 2003-04.
The triumph represents the clearest sign yet that the long-term project established under the Spaniard has fully arrived at the top of English football.
