Goals from midfielder Luca CalΓ² β from the penalty spot β an own goal from Mantova defender Castellini, Fares Ghedjemis, Raimondo and Konstantinos Koutsoupias completed a comfortable win at the Stadio Benito Stirpe that confirmed Frosinone's place among the top two with 81 points from 38 matches.
The promotion is the third time Frosinone have played in Serie A and represents a significant achievement given that just twelve months ago the club were fighting to avoid relegation to Serie C. Head coach Massimiliano Alvini, who won the league with Cremonese in 2022, delivered his first top-flight promotion as a manager.
Sassuolo manager Fabio Grosso found personal reasons to celebrate the occasion. Grosso previously managed Frosinone and led them to Serie A in 2023 β their last appearance in the top flight before relegation. His son Filippo, born two months after Italy's 2006 World Cup victory in which Fabio scored a decisive penalty in the semi-final against Germany, made eight appearances for the club this season including seven in Serie B, scoring once.
Fabio paid tribute after the result.
"I am very happy for Frosinone's promotion β it is a place I am deeply attached to and I have followed them with great affection. My son Filippo has managed to carve out his own space in a very strong team. I am happy for him too."
Venezia, managed by Giovanni Stroppa, won the title with 82 points after a 2-0 victory over Palermo on the same evening. The third promotion spot will be decided through the play-offs, with Monza, Palermo, Catanzaro, Modena, Juve Stabia and Avellino all competing.
Frosinone begin their 2026/27 Serie A campaign in August. After the season they have just had, nobody will be starting them as favourites to go straight back down.
