The Football Association has issued its first statement since Manchester City were found guilty of all charges brought against the club over alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations.
The FA said the independent commission's decision has implications for the wider game and confirmed that it is considering the findings before deciding whether further action is required.
“The Independent Commission's decision has significant implications for the integrity of the game. We are carefully considering the decision and its implications and will take action where appropriate,” the FA said.
The governing body also stressed that the proceedings involving City and the Premier League remain ongoing and therefore declined to comment further on the case.
“As proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club remain ongoing, we do not intend to comment further at this stage. We will, however, continue to monitor developments closely.”
The commission found City guilty of the charges relating to the period between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.
The Premier League has said the findings included alleged arrangements involving sponsorship revenue, while City have rejected the allegations and intend to appeal the decision.
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters described the commission's decision as establishing the facts surrounding City's conduct during the period under investigation.
“The core decision establishes the facts of what happened at Manchester City during this period. It details how the club systematically broke Premier League Rules for nearly a decade.”
Masters also stressed that the disciplinary process has not yet reached its conclusion, with the sanction for the breaches still to be determined.
“There are elements of the case that remain to be decided, including, importantly, what sanction must follow for these breaches. Now we have the Commission's decision, we are committed to moving swiftly through the remainder of the process, to provide certainty for the League, our clubs and fans.”
City have disputed the commission's conclusions and are pursuing an appeal, meaning the final consequences of the ruling remain unresolved.
The FA's statement therefore represents an indication that the governing body is assessing the findings rather than announcing an immediate disciplinary response.
With the Premier League process continuing and City's appeal still to come, further decisions will determine what action, if any, follows from the commission's findings.
