With Casemiro expected to leave at the end of the season, United have been linked with several midfielders including Tonali, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.
But Parker says Newcastle star Tonali stands above the rest.
Parker, speaking to Football Presse, said: “Tonali for me, he’s a little fire bomb.
“He’s got plenty and there’s more talent there than what people have seen.”
Parker feels Tonali is underrated because of the spotlight placed on Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle, claiming the Italian often sacrifices his own game for the Brazilian.
He said: “As soon as Guimaraes comes back, he sits back.
“He’s very reserved and allows him to be flamboyant.”
Parker also pointed to Tonali’s recent display against United as proof of his quality.
He added: “Tonali is a fantastic footballer.
“His performance against Manchester United at St James’ Park was absolutely exceptional.”
Comparing him to Casemiro, Parker believes Tonali has the discipline and presence required for the role, even if he offers less aerial threat.
He said: “If you’re talking about someone with the same kind of mannerisms as a Casemiro, then you’re looking at him.
“Somebody just does his job.”
United are expected to prioritise midfield additions this summer, and Parker’s verdict suggests Tonali should be near the top of the shortlist.
