The 31-year-old is a free agent after his spell with Feyenoord ended, following a difficult period that also included an unsuccessful loan at Arsenal after he became surplus to requirements at Chelsea.
Sterling was once one of the Premier League's leading attackers, winning four English league titles with Manchester City and establishing himself as a key England international. He also spent his early senior career at Liverpool and has won 82 caps for the Three Lions.
His recent struggles have left him searching for a fresh start, with a move away from England among the possibilities being considered.
Sterling is continuing to train individually as he looks for his next opportunity and is understood to be willing to accept a significant reduction in his financial demands to find the right sporting project.
His search has already taken him to France. His representatives have approached two Ligue 1 clubs in recent days, including Le Havre, but the Normandy club decided against pursuing the opportunity because they already consider themselves well covered in Sterling's position.
A second unnamed Ligue 1 club was also approached, but likewise chose not to take the former Chelsea and Manchester City forward.
Sterling's recent off-field situation has added to the uncertainty surrounding his future. He appeared before an English court on September 15 following a May incident involving his Lamborghini.
He admitted dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide after the incident, in which nobody was injured, and was released on bail. The court case has since been concluded.
Sterling now has to decide where his career goes next, with opportunities outside England also under consideration as he attempts to revive a career that once placed him among the Premier League's leading players.
