Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi has welcomed Alberto Gilardino’s arrival as head coach after the departure of Carlos Cuesta, while insisting the squad is ready for the challenge of facing Inter.

Corvi paid tribute to Cuesta after the Spaniard left Parma at the end of September, bringing an end to an 18-month spell that the goalkeeper remembers fondly.

“First of all I have to say goodbye to Mister Cuesta. It was a shame what happened. We were very close, we spent an incredible year and a half together and achieved the result that was required,” Corvi told RadioTV Serie A. “I wish him all the best.”

Parma have since appointed Gilardino and Corvi says the squad has quickly responded to the former Italy international.

“Now, though, we are very happy to have Gilardino. He is humble and a hard worker and we immediately got on well,” Corvi said.

The goalkeeper believes the players are ready to put Gilardino’s ideas into practice, although the first test will be a demanding trip to San Siro to face reigning Italian champions Inter.

“As a team we are willing to put on the pitch what we are asked to do. Against Inter it will be tough and difficult and we are preparing to face them,” Corvi said. “We are fired up and we will try to give our best.”

Corvi has made 22 Serie A appearances and also explained how the goalkeeping group has maintained its daily work despite the change on the bench.

“The methodology has not changed. With Mister Pavarini and the group of goalkeepers, we work every day on improving ourselves and preparing for the match in the best possible way,” he said.

The 23-year-old believes regular football brings experience and says studying other goalkeepers is also part of his development.

“The more you play, the more experience you have and you try to learn from it. When I study other goalkeepers, I try to take details from them and on the pitch I try to do what I have worked on during the week and what is asked of me,” Corvi said.

The change in management therefore comes with Parma preparing for one of their hardest fixtures of the season. Corvi’s comments suggest the squad has quickly embraced Gilardino, while the goalkeeper remains focused on continuing his own development.

For Parma, the immediate objective is to take the new manager’s ideas into a difficult match at San Siro and see whether the change can produce an early result.
