At Portman Road, 16-year-old Max Dowman scored twice as Arsenal eased to victory over Ipswich Town, with the teenager making his first start of the season alongside 17-year-old centre-back Marli Salmon. Dowman opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a fine solo goal, winning the ball in midfield before playing a one-two with Eberechi Eze and beating two defenders to slot home.
Noni Madueke doubled the lead from Mikel Merino's flicked pass, and after the break Dowman added his second with a composed finish from Martin Zubimendi's ball, before Merino struck a fourth off the post. Ipswich replied through Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom, but it was too little, too late.
Tottenham's miserable start to the season continued as they were beaten by a heavily rotated Liverpool side at Anfield, De Zerbi's team at least finding the net for the first time this season against Premier League opposition.

Brentford booked their place in the fourth round with a hard-fought win at League One Reading, with Callum Wilson and Fabio Carvalho scoring either side of half-time before Paudie O'Connor's header set up a nervy finish.
Dango Ouattara set up both goals, first for Wilson inside three minutes and then for Carvalho immediately after the break, with the winger's second assist teeing up Carvalho's first appearance since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament last November. Reading were fortunate not to fall further behind when Ouattara's header forced a save from Joel Pereira that Michael Kayode failed to convert.
