Dortmund make enquiry for Camavinga but Real Madrid insist he is not for sale

Borussia Dortmund have enquired about Eduardo Camavinga's availability at Real Madrid, but the Spanish club have rejected the approach and confirmed the French midfielder is not for sale this summer.

The enquiry was reported by Real Madrid-affiliated journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon, who indicated the German club had reached out to the Bernabéu in recent weeks. Madrid's response was unambiguous — Camavinga remains part of the squad.

The approach comes amid a difficult end to the season for the 23-year-old. He has oscillated between the starting eleven and the substitutes' bench under Álvaro Arbeloa, and a red card in the Champions League last-16 second leg against Bayern Munich contributed to Madrid's early elimination from the competition. He was subsequently left out of Didier Deschamps' France squad for the World Cup, a significant blow for a player who was a key member of the national team throughout the qualification campaign.

Camavinga joined Madrid from Stade Rennes in 2021 for 31 million euros and has made 222 appearances for the club, winning two Champions League titles in that time. He started the 2024 final against Borussia Dortmund themselves for the full 90 minutes as Madrid won 2-0. His contract runs until 2029.

The situation could yet change depending on who becomes Madrid's next permanent manager. José Mourinho is the frontrunner for the role, and any incoming head coach will want to assess the squad before decisions on outgoings are finalised. Madrid have made no indication they want to sell, but the summer review process leaves the door open for adjustments.

Dortmund are actively rebuilding their midfield following a season of inconsistency in the Bundesliga and a Europa League semi-final exit.
