A slow-paced match with plenty of rough edges offered only glimpses of what Antonio Hidalgo's side can produce this season.
With several new faces involved, the friendly was primarily a chance for Hidalgo to run the rule over fresh options and give a number of players their first outing in the badge. Left-back Xabi Campos, on loan from the club's B team, impressed alongside forward Teun Gijselhart, who also got on the scoresheet. The opener came in the 19th minute, when Luismi Cruz's low cross was turned in by Gijselhart from close range.
Deportivo La Coruna fielded an entirely different XI for the second half, with Jonathan Asp Jensen, who arrived this summer from Bayern Munich and carries considerable expectation, making his debut for the club. The pace of the match remained slow throughout the second period, but Deportivo doubled their advantage midway through when Zakaria Eddahchouri beat his marker and finished low past Compostela goalkeeper Yeray.
Gijselhart then added his second, and Deportivo's third, with an eye-catching scissor-kick finish after a good cross from Samu Fernandez. Kevin Sanchez completed the scoring in the final minutes, converting after Giacomo Quagliata picked him out with a cross from the right.
Compostela paid tribute to their captain, Samu Rodriguez, before kick-off. Carlos de Lerma's side gave debuts and run-outs of their own to a number of squad members across the 90 minutes, as both clubs used the fixture largely as a fitness and assessment exercise ahead of the new season, rather than a display of the finished tactical product either manager will ultimately look to field.
Deportivo will continue their pre-season schedule over the coming weeks as they prepare for a return to the Spanish top flight for the first time in eight years, having sealed automatic promotion from the Segunda Division in May.
Saturday's line-up offered an early look at how Hidalgo might blend his squad once the competitive season gets under way, with academy graduates and senior figures such as goalkeeper Leo Roman and full-back Ximo Navarro rotated alongside the newer arrivals.
