ADL has suggested the 34-year-old could be moved on if incoming manager Massimiliano Allegri decides he does not want him in the squad.
De Bruyne spoke to Het Nieuwsblad following Conte's departure by mutual consent, expressing relief at the Italian's exit and describing how he was denied the opportunity to play in his preferred position throughout the season.
"It was obviously difficult for me because Conte has a completely different vision of football from mine. In fact, I never had the opportunity to play in my preferred position."
De Laurentiis addressed those comments at a press conference, choosing his words carefully but leaving little ambiguity about their implications.
"They have made statements that are either acceptable or unacceptable depending on one's point of view."
He then delivered his bottom line.
"We will see what happens when we all come back. We will see what the new coach thinks about it. If someone has to leave, they leave. What is the problem? There are plenty of footballers in the world."
De Bruyne has one year remaining on his contract at Napoli, running to the summer of 2027. Whether Allegri — who has agreed a two-year deal — regards him as a priority player or a potential departure will be one of the first decisions of the new management's tenure.
The Belgian arrived from Manchester City on a free transfer last summer and scored five goals and contributed two assists in 18 Serie A appearances, his season significantly curtailed by injury.
