The 29-year-old is entering the final months of his current deal and Palace are reportedly ready to consider selling him rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Manchester United have maintained an interest in Mateta, while AC Milan and clubs in Saudi Arabia have also been linked with the France international.
Mateta scored 14 goals in 47 appearances last season and remains one of the more experienced attacking options available to Palace. His future has nevertheless become increasingly uncertain as the club assess whether to cash in during the January window.
According to Ekrem Konur, Palace are expected to place Mateta on the transfer list when the market reopens.
The striker's contract position makes January particularly significant. Palace would still be able to demand a transfer fee during the winter window, whereas Mateta could leave for free once his current agreement expires.
Manchester United's interest could provide competition for his signature, with the Premier League club continuing to assess attacking options. Italian and Saudi interest could also give Palace a wider market for the forward.
Mateta has already been the subject of significant transfer speculation, having wanted to leave Palace previously. His situation therefore appears to be moving towards a decisive point as the club consider whether to sell or retain him for the remainder of the season.
For Palace, the decision is ultimately a financial one as well as a sporting one. A January sale would generate income from a player who could otherwise depart without a fee, although losing an experienced striker midway through the campaign would leave the club needing to manage the consequences.
With his contract running down and several clubs monitoring his position, Mateta is likely to be one of the more prominent names on the January transfer market.
