Crystal Palace and Newcastle face €30m Danilo price

Crystal Palace

Botafogo have set a €30m (£26m) asking price for Danilo Santos as Crystal Palace and Newcastle United consider a move for the in-form midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has attracted growing attention after becoming Botafogo’s leading scorer this year, with clubs in Italy and Spain also monitoring his situation.

Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte reports that Newcastle, United, AS Roma and Real Betis have made initial enquiries about Danilo. Crystal Palace are also following the player after sending head scout Alessandro Brito to watch him against Vasco da Gama.

Brito, who oversees Palace’s scouting in Latin America, previously worked at Botafogo. The south London club have already assessed Danilo in person, while Newcastle are renewing their interest after failing to secure his signature during the summer.

No club has submitted an official offer, according to the report, with Botafogo expecting further approaches when the January window opens. Their €30m valuation provides an initial indication of the fee required to prise him away.

Danilo’s performances are strengthening his case for a move. He scored again in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Coritiba, rescuing a point after Botafogo had struggled to make their attacking pressure count.

The midfielder had already put the ball in the net earlier in the match, but that effort was disallowed following a foul by teammate Arthur Cabral. Danilo continued to push forward and eventually found the equaliser.

Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte has highlighted the extent to which Botafogo are relying on the midfielder while their forwards struggle to score. Cabral, in particular, has endured a difficult spell in front of goal.

Danilo had also scored twice in Botafogo’s recent 3-2 victory over Grêmio, underlining his growing influence in the final third. He has become a regular source of goals despite operating in midfield rather than as a conventional striker.

He has recorded 13 goals and three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions this season, making him Botafogo’s leading scorer in 2026.

His willingness to arrive in the penalty area has become a defining feature of his game. Even when teammates have tired during matches, Danilo has continued to make forward runs and offer Botafogo a threat.

Palace and Newcastle now have a clearer idea of the financial commitment required if they decide to pursue him. With several clubs watching and Botafogo under no immediate pressure to accept an offer, a January deal could be expensive.
