Sporting director Carlalberto Ludi played down any talk of Como challenging for the title in his first season working alongside Fàbregas, speaking to Radio Rai.
"For us, like the Champions League this year, it would be an almost unspeakable dream, and there's no point thinking about it. We're working to improve. We know staying at this level won't be easy, quite the opposite. But we also have the desire, and above all the financial balance, to give it a try," Ludi said.
Asked about the club's approach to the transfer market, Ludi explained that Fàbregas remains the guiding voice on recruitment, with Italian eligibility a bonus rather than a requirement.
"We always take the same approach. Cesc guides us on which players fit his methods, his style of play. Given the UEFA squad lists, it would obviously help if they were Italian, but we don't want to change our team's technical identity just to add one more Italian player.
"We've approached several players within the domestic market, and we brought in a talent who really represents what we want to be, which is Liberali, and we hope and believe he can be the first of many," he said.
Ludi also addressed persistent speculation linking Como with Fiorentina striker Moise Kean, making clear no real negotiation has taken place.
"On Moise Kean, I'd say Como made a significant investment in Álvaro Morata last season, an investment that's right to protect for an extraordinary player and champion. Everything that's been written about Moise reflects the fact that he's an extraordinary forward, probably one of the best talents in Italian football in recent years. But there has never been a real negotiation, only genuine appreciation on our part for the player's potential," Ludi said.
Como face a very different kind of test on Wednesday, when they travel to London for a pre-season friendly against Arsenal.
"The game against Arsenal is a big challenge, a great match and a huge opportunity for us, to see what level we'll be facing during the Champions League season," Fàbregas told the club's official channels. "Playing in front of 65,000 people, against great players, will show us where we stand, and we'll enjoy the opportunity while trying to put in a big performance."
The Spaniard also reflected on what the fixture means beyond the pitch, with Como fans snapping up tickets as soon as the match was confirmed.
"We're happy for the people of Como too, who bought tickets straight away once they found out we'd be playing in London. We're very honoured, as a city and as a club, to play against Arsenal, who won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final," Fàbregas said.
