The heavy defeat left Racing coach José Alberto reflecting on a second thrashing in a matter of days, while Celta coach Claudio Giráldez admitted his side’s first half had been among their worst of the season.
José Alberto felt Racing had started well.
“The result is very hard for us, above all because I think we were good at the start and until the second goal. Then we lost control,” he said. “The week is hard and painful for all of us, the team has to be more competitive, offer a better face and adapt to the category.”
Speaking to Movistar, he said both heavy defeats had hurt.
“They are two very painful results, they hurt us. We have to do a deep reflection on what we are doing and be aware that away from home, with what we are doing, it isn’t enough for us.”
He also praised Celta.
“Celta are a team with players far more settled in the category and what they have done is smell blood and blow us away.”
Giráldez was happy with the result but not with the opening 45 minutes.
“A bad first half, one of the worst we’ve done this year. We go in at 2-0 and football has these things sometimes. From 3-0 the ketchup bottle comes unstuck and we see a team released, playing very fast, very well, with many arrivals. The result is excessive. It gets us level on the goals we would like to have, but they are simply seven points and we have to have tranquillity and calm.”
The Celta coach said the break had come at the right time.
“We complained a little about the calendar and now the feeling is that we didn’t want it to stop, and certainly not for so many weeks. It will be good for resting, to go away with a smile at least after this hard month in terms of calendar and results. The people inside have always trusted and they have their reward today for a lot of effort.”
He was also thankful for the support of the crowd.
“I go away relieved for the people, not for myself. I insist, I believe results come from working, from doing things well, from giving football things, from the team believing in what we do or what we propose. I see total conviction in the team. It’s a relief for all the people who were worried about how we started.”
