The 34-year-old right-back visited Getafe’s facilities on Tuesday, completed the formalities of his move and met head coach José Bordalás before taking part in his first training session with the squad.
Carvajal made clear that he was eager to get started and return to competitive action as quickly as possible.
“I’m really looking forward to working,” he told Bordalás during their first meeting.
The defender later shared a message through Getafe’s social media channels after completing his first session and taking part in the official photographs.
“I’m already here, I’ve completed my first session, we’ve had the official photo, and I can’t wait to make my debut, play and have you see me running down the wing. Come on, Geta!”
Getafe are hoping to complete his registration in time for Monday’s La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano. If the paperwork is finalised and Bordalás considers him ready, Carvajal could be available for his first appearance in Getafe colours.
He will wear the number 14 shirt as he begins a new phase of his career away from the club where he established himself as one of Europe’s most decorated right-backs.
Carvajal left Real Madrid in June after a trophy-laden spell that included six Champions League titles. He also won the European Championship with Spain in 2024 and earned 51 senior international caps.
His arrival gives Getafe a defender with extensive experience at the highest level, as well as leadership qualities that could prove valuable during the season. The club officially confirmed the agreement on Tuesday, welcoming him to the squad and wishing him success in his new role.
Getafe’s supporters responded enthusiastically to the announcement, with the club’s social media channels attracting significant engagement as news of the signing spread.
Carvajal’s immediate priority is now to build match fitness and adapt to Bordalás’ demands. After spending his career competing for major honours with Real Madrid, he faces a different challenge in southern Madrid, where his experience could be important to Getafe’s ambitions.
The prospect of facing Rayo Vallecano offers a potential early opportunity, but his debut will depend on registration and the coach’s decision.
