The win took Cagliari to 12 points, while Udinese suffered a third consecutive league defeat.
Cagliari coach Fabio Pisacane, speaking to DAZN, was pleased with the resilience of his team.
“Yes, today I’m happy for the lads because this victory is worth more than three points. There are moments when you have to be beautiful, always staying within our possibilities, and moments when you have to be strong. Today the team was strong: I saw fifteen players defending every metre with great sacrifice and dedication, just as I wanted.
"Obviously suffering doesn’t scare me when it is organised and accompanied by a spirit of sacrifice and unity. That’s why I’m really happy.”
Pisacane also spoke about goalkeeper Elia Caprile, who was decisive again and whom he felt deserved an Italy call-up.
“I think that if there is merit, the lad must collect it, because regardless of the established hierarchies you also have to refer to what you see on the pitch. I say it calmly: after Donnarumma and Carnesecchi, I think Elia is the goalkeeper who deserved to be at Coverciano in the next few days on performance.
"If that hasn’t happened it’s because the national team coach will have had his reasons, but I’m convinced these are people who look at everything. I’m very convinced that Elia can aspire to be, if he continues like this, one of the three or four goalkeepers of the Italian national team.”
Udinese coach Kosta Runjaic was left to reflect on a defeat his side felt they did not deserve on the numbers.
“We lost, that’s the state of affairs. Football is based on results, we are very sorry about this defeat. The statistics were on our side but they don’t count if you lose. Cagliari were difficult to face, they defended low, even Inter only scored one goal against Cagliari. We can talk about the positives. We lost, not converting what we produced and conceding a goal from an error, it’s not the best way to approach the break.”
He also gave an update on Keinan Davis, who went off injured.
“He felt something in the hamstring, I don’t know if it was more a mental stop than a physical one, with his injury history he knows his body very well. He’s an important lad for us, tomorrow we will know more, he probably felt something tighten and asked to come off.”
