Rayan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, finishing at the far post after Justin Kluivert delivered a free-kick into the penalty area. Marcus Tavernier doubled Bournemouth’s advantage five minutes later, capitalising on Leny Yoro’s slip before converting from close range.
Evanilson completed the scoring in the 71st minute, racing onto Lewis Cook’s long ball and beating goalkeeper Senne Lammens before finishing from a tight angle.
The result capped a demanding spell for Bournemouth, who had beaten AC Milan 3-0 in the Europa League on Thursday. Rose’s side arrived at Old Trafford seeking to carry that performance into the Premier League, and their aggressive approach brought a convincing reward.
Speaking after the match, Rose told Sky Sports that his players had delivered the kind of performance he wanted.
“We wanted to be front-footed. We wanted to be brave and we played brave. We have good players and we showed it. We were just Bournemouth today,” he said.
Evanilson’s goal continued a productive run for the Brazilian, who had also scored against Sunderland and Sturm Graz. His willingness to chase Cook’s clearance helped turn a difficult situation for Lammens into a decisive moment, with the goalkeeper caught outside his area.
Manchester United, meanwhile, were left to digest another damaging afternoon. The defeat followed their midweek loss to Como and increased the pressure on Carrick, whose side struggled to recover after conceding twice before half-time.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Carrick said the support he received from the Stretford End had left him with mixed emotions despite the result.
“I have to say I have really mixed emotions, I wasn’t really expecting that of the supporters, if I’m honest,” he said. “I’ve always felt their support, and always felt that connection with them anyway.”
Carrick acknowledged the difficulty of the club’s current situation and accepted responsibility for the results.
“I take the responsibility, of course. I’ve said that and I accept the responsibility whatever’s going to happen results-wise whether we win, lose, draw. I’m in this position, because I respect the position that I’m in, and the responsibility is mine.”
He declined to speculate about his future, saying he would continue as normal and do what he believed was best for United.
The immediate challenge is to restore confidence before next weekend’s trip to Chelsea. Harry Maguire also called for improvement after the Bournemouth defeat, pointing to defensive errors and the need to handle basic situations better.
For Bournemouth, the performance offered another sign of growing momentum under Rose. Three goals, a clean sheet and a composed display at Old Trafford made it a memorable afternoon for the visitors.
