Bayern weigh Alphonso Davies sale despite £13m-a-year salary making buyer search difficult

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich are considering selling Alphonso Davies this summer despite the left-back having no desire to leave, with the club privately acknowledging that his salary makes finding a buyer close to impossible.

Kicker reports that Davies remains a potential sale candidate at Bayern Munich, even though the Canadian signed a contract extension in February 2025 that runs until 2030 on a base salary of between €15 million and €20 million per year — one of the largest in the club's history.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl and his colleagues are under no illusions that meeting that wage bill at another club narrows the field dramatically, with only the wealthiest clubs in the Saudi Pro League realistically in the frame.

The practical challenge is reflected in Davies' playing record since signing that deal. He has made only 16 Bundesliga appearances, with recurring injury problems limiting his availability and raising questions internally about planning reliability at left-back.

Bayern have responded by scouting alternatives. Nathaniel Brown, the 22-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt right-back who can operate on either flank, is under consideration, as is Manchester City's Joško Gvardiol, who is himself said to be open to a return to the Bundesliga.

Davies, 25, has not held talks with other clubs and is understood to be settled in Munich. He is in Canada's squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America, which is expected to delay any final resolution until after the tournament.

Any sale would require a club willing to match the salary in full — a tall order at that level.
