Musiala's World Cup ended early alongside the rest of the German squad, who were eliminated on penalties by Paraguay in the round of 32, but before he could turn his full attention to pre-season with Bayern Munich, the attacking midfielder had one more trip to the operating theatre to take care of.
Musiala's original injury dates back to last summer's Club World Cup, when he suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle following a collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during Bayern's quarter-final defeat in Atlanta.
The 22-year-old at the time underwent successful surgery within days of the incident and faced a recovery timeline stretching several months, a period that ultimately extended into this year's World Cup preparations.
Bayern Munich confirmed that the 23-year-old has undergone what the club described as a "small, planned routine procedure," calling it a standard part of his recovery process following the serious injury he suffered last summer.
According to Bild, surgeons removed a metal plate from Musiala's left foot during the operation, which took place at the specialist Unfallklinik in Murnau.
The club stressed that pre-season preparations are not under threat as a result of the procedure. Musiala is expected to follow a clearly structured rehabilitation plan and should be fully available by the time competitive fixtures begin.
The timing of the operation had been planned for after the World Cup regardless of how Germany's campaign unfolded, with Bayern having potentially anticipated Musiala facing a later return given the demands of a deep tournament run.
Instead, Germany's early exit meant the procedure could be brought forward, giving the midfielder more time to recover before the new Bundesliga season gets under way.
