Bayern Munich set return targets for Kimmich, Musiala and Kompany

Bayern Munich are hopeful Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala can return in November, but Vincent Kompany is expected to remain absent for longer.

The three absences have created an unusual period of uncertainty at the German champions, with the club managing a personal bereavement, a muscle injury and a medical emergency involving their head coach.

According to Sport Bild, Kimmich is expected to return for Saturday’s Bundesliga meeting with Borussia Dortmund, with the midfielder potentially available for one of the biggest fixtures of Bayern’s season.

The Germany international has been away from club duties following the death of his father. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund showed his support by travelling to represent the club at the funeral rather than attending the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.

Kimmich’s possible return would provide a timely boost ahead of the Dortmund match, although the circumstances surrounding his absence mean his reintegration will be handled with appropriate care.

Jamal Musiala is also working towards a return, but his recovery is being managed more cautiously. The attacking midfielder suffered a muscle tear while warming up before Germany’s Nations League match against the Netherlands, which finished 1-1.

Bayern’s internal target is reportedly for Musiala to be available before the next international break in mid-November. The away fixture against Mainz on November 7 has been identified as a possible date for his comeback.

That remains a target rather than a confirmed return date, with the club needing to assess his progress as he recovers from the injury. Musiala’s creativity and ability to operate between the lines would be valuable as Bayern approach a demanding stretch of the campaign.

The most serious concern surrounds Vincent Kompany, who collapsed while attending a training session with Bayern’s second team. Assistant coach Aaron Danks has been filling in for the Belgian and offered an encouraging update on his condition.

“I went to see Vince briefly yesterday, and he is in good spirits. It looks as though he is getting better every day, which is really positive,” Danks said.

However, an improvement in Kompany’s condition does not necessarily mean he is close to resuming his duties. Sport Bild reports that Bayern have ruled out a return before the November international break.

His availability for the Bundesliga match against Cologne on November 20 remains uncertain. The club has yet to establish a definitive timetable for his return to the touchline.

Kompany reportedly collapsed suddenly during the second team’s training session, hitting his head before experiencing convulsions. A heart attack or stroke was quickly ruled out, while doctors were said to be focusing their investigations on a problem involving his head.

The uncertainty leaves Bayern Munich waiting on three separate timelines. Kimmich could be back for Dortmund, Musiala is targeting a return before the international break, and Kompany’s recovery remains the least predictable of the three.
