Bayern Munich have moved swiftly to target PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ismael Saibari after losing out to Barcelona in the race for Anthony Gordon, with talks already under way and a formal bid expected before the World Cup begins.

Fabrizio Romano broke the news that Bayern Munich had opened discussions with Saibari's camp, with the Bundesliga champions acting fast to find an alternative wide attacker after the Newcastle United winger chose Camp Nou.

Saibari, who turns 26 in September, is keen on the move. Sky subsequently confirmed that Bayern had submitted a formal written offer to the player and his agency, with the German club intending to close a deal before the tournament starts on June 11.

The Morocco international is coming off one of the finest seasons of his career. He scored 19 goals and contributed nine assists in 37 appearances across all competitions for PSV, who retained the Eredivisie title and also competed in the Champions League. His numbers across his four senior seasons at Eindhoven read 42 goals and 29 assists in 142 appearances.

He is capable of operating as an attacking midfielder in the number ten role or on either flank โ€” the positional flexibility that both his club and Bayern cite as a key attraction.

The obstacle, as anticipated, is the fee. PSV are under no obligation to sell. Saibari is contracted until 2029, and the Dutch club have made clear they will demand a significant premium.

PSV coach Peter Bosz has valued him above โ‚ฌ60m, while local paper Eindhovens Dagblad suggests the club will look to surpass their outgoing transfer record. Bayern are waiting for PSV's formal asking price before determining whether to advance.

Galatasaray and PSG have also been linked with Saibari, who will head to the World Cup with Morocco โ€” where another strong performance could drive his valuation higher still.
