The 19-year-old, who can operate at both right-back and centre-back, has emerged as one of the more promising talents from Chelsea’s academy setup.
Acheampong has featured regularly this season, making 26 appearances in all competitions and contributing two goals, with 13 of those outings coming from the start.
His development has not gone unnoticed, with Bayern now adding him to their shortlist as they consider reinforcements at the back.
According to reports in Germany, the Bundesliga giants view the teenager as a strong option, particularly if there is movement within their current defensive ranks.
Christian Falk, speaking to CF Bayern Insider, explained the situation and the conditions that could influence Bayern’s interest.
“Josh Acheampong is a hot target for Bayern Munich right now. He is on Bayern's radar as they are always open to signing a defender if Kim Min-jae leaves the club,” he said.
Falk also indicated that any move would depend heavily on the future of the South Korean international, who remains an important figure within the squad despite not being a guaranteed starter.
“But from within the club, Kim would have to go to the bosses and ask to leave, after which they would sell him. If not, the South Korean international will stay,” Falk added.
“Of course he can stay - he is a very good reserve. I know he feels okay with his position in the squad. He knows he is not in the starting eleven and that is okay with Kim at the moment.”
From Chelsea’s perspective, Acheampong’s immediate future is still under consideration, with the club open to a loan move if it benefits his development.
The key factor will be the player’s desire for regular first-team football, with Stamford Bridge officials keen to ensure he continues progressing at the right level.
With Bayern keeping a close watch and Chelsea weighing up their options, Acheampong’s next step is shaping up to be a significant one in his early career.
